PRINCIPAL

Mr. CK

Welcome!

Dear Buffett Bobcat Families,

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year! I hope your summer was safe!

As we plan for the new school year, the Buffett tradition is strong and continues. Buffett Magnet’s teachers and staff take pride in providing a rigorous and vibrant learning environment where each student can thrive. We are looking forward to continuing the Buffett High Five this year in all that we do. We believe Buffett Bobcats excel because they follow these core values.

·       Be Hardworking

·       Be Kind

·       Be Safe

·       Be Trustworthy

·       Be Your Best

As we’ve done in the past, the school year will start with a 5th grade only day. We are looking forward to meeting all 5th grade students on Wednesday, August 14th, 2019 and meeting all students on Thursday, August 15th, 2019.

To prepare your student(s) for the first day of school, we have organized a student orientation night. Please mark your calendars and join us on Monday, August 12th. Our 5th and 6th grade students should arrive between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. and our 7th and 8th grade students should arrive between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m., though you are welcome to attend at any time that is most convenient to you.

What can you get at student orientation night?

·       Class schedules

·       Locker assignments

·       Bobcat gear (t-shirts)***

·       Lunch pre-payment forms

·       Activity Card Stickers***

·       Student Handbooks

·       School photos***

·       Buffett PTO memberships***

·       Personal laptop devices (every student!)

·       Laptop Insurance***

***Remember, we can only take cash or check at Buffett.

What will you see at student orientation?

·       Your amazing teachers!

·       School counselors, coaches, club sponsors, and more.

·       Me, your friendly neighborhood Principal.

·       The new We Are Buffett mural above the commons

·       The new Alice Buffett Legacy Display in the front office – thanks to the Sherwood Foundation

Last year, almost every Buffett family joined us for our student orientation night, so we are planning for a large turnout. Plan for an open house setting which allows you and your family to visit each “activity station.”  If an unavoidable conflict makes you unable to attend, please know we will send home the orientation information with your student the first day of school. We hope all families can join us to give us a chance to warmly welcome you back!

In addition to the orientation, listed below is general school information for the 2019-20 school year:

·       Wednesday, August 14th, 2019 – 5th Grade ONLY for the first day.

·       Thursday, August 15th, 2019 – School begins for ALL students grades 5-8.

·       School begins at 7:40 a.m. and concludes at 3:05 p.m. daily.

·       Complimentary breakfast is available each day from 7:05 a.m. – 7:30 a.m.

·       The school building is open at 7:05 a.m. Students are not to be in the building or on property before this time. Doors will be unlocked from 7:05-7:45 a.m. and then once again locked until the end of our school day, which is at 3:05 p.m. Additionally, at 3:15 p.m., our doors will be locked for the day.

·       Please note Buffett Middle School closes at 3:15 p.m. All students must be out of the building unless previous arrangements have been made or if they are participating in a supervised after school activity (sports, band, or homework hideout, etc.) Just a reminder Buffett Middle school does not offer any after school student care. We appreciate your help in supporting our effort to keep your student accounted for and safe. The front entrance and commons area should be vacated by 3:15 p.m. Thank you.

·       Daily lunch meal prices for the 2019-20 school year: $1.75 for full price and $.40 for reduced price. Students opting to add a la carte snack items to their meal will be charged accordingly.

·       The OPS Office of Transportation will be sending out letters with route and pickup locations to students living 1.5 miles or more from Buffett. Please call them directly at 531-299-0140 if you have questions about your child’s bus transportation.

·       All Buffett students are required to have a student agenda. Agendas will be distributed to all students during the first few days of school at no cost. However, there will be a lost or replacement fee of $3.00.

·       Buffett Open House will be on Tuesday, September 17th, 2018, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

·       Please return the enclosed forms at fall orientation.  Forms you receive at orientation night need to be returned by the first day of school.

·       Please check our website for additional information. (www.ops.org/middle/buffett)

·       Our website has a link to a PDF with a “Suggested Supply List.” Please know, this is not a requirement. Buffett will be providing supplies as well.

We hope these reminders and enclosed forms are helpful. Call us often or stop in whenever you would like.  Our Buffett doors are wide open as we welcome you back and throughout the school year!

Sincerely,

Mr. Anthony “CK” Clark-Kaczmarek, Principal
