Points of Pride – Library: 

Literacy and Library Skills 

  • Extensive collection of print materials (over 10,000 books!) 

  • Sora (OverDrive) provides on-line e-books and audiobooks; Sora accounts can also be linked to the Omaha Public Library 

  • In-Person and Remote lessons with full-time, certified librarian who 

  • Selects and provides reading material both in print and on-line 

  • Collaborates and co-teaches inquiry and research projects 

  • Provides instruction in finding reliable, credible sources for sources, how to cite sources, and how to use the Internet safely and responsibly 

  • Teaches basic library skills such as how to look up and find a book in both the fiction and nonfictions sections of the library 

Inquiry and Research 

  • Collaboration between librarian and teachers to curate resources and provide instruction in how to use sources 

  • On-line databases such as NoveList, Gale Research in Context, and Encyclopedia Britannica; all databases can be accessed both at school and at home 

  • On-line citation tool – Noodletools 

Author Visits 

  • Most recently: Carl Deuker, Alan Gratz, Angela Cervantes, and April Henry 

  • Author visits provide students with the opportunity to engage with writers and learn about the writing process
