Buffett P.T.O $500 Scholarship Information

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible for the PTO scholarship offered, the student must meet the following criteria:

1.       Attended Alice Buffett Magnet Middle School for at least two (2) years.

2.       Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

3.       Be a graduating senior from an OPS high school and plan to attend a college, university, vocational-technical, nursing, business, or other school of higher learning in the summer or fall term following graduation.                                       

SECTION I. - Download cover sheet from this website. Applications will be reviewed by student ID only. A scoring rubric will be used by PTO members to maintain objectivity.

   

SECTION II. - Label as Section II and write only your student ID at the top. Do not write your name.

Essay for PTO Academic Scholarship: (2 AWARDED)

On a separate page, compose an essay using the title, “What I Remember Most About My Experience at Buffett.”  In your essay include: Why is this memory meaningful to you? In what way did your time at Buffett help you to become the young adult you are today?

SECTION III. - Label as Section III & write only your student ID at the top. Do not write your name.

On a separate page, compose an essay using the title, “My Future Plans: Why I Want to Further My Education and Training." In your essay include: Where do you plan to receive your post-secondary education and training? What career cluster or pathway will you be preparing for? How did you arrive upon this decision?

SECTION IV. - Label as Section IV & write only your student ID at the top. Leave off your name, address, phone number, email, and high school.

Attach a resume and include the following four headings. Be sure to list the grade levels (9, 10, 11, 12) you participated in each of the items included.

Activities (in and out of high school including leadership positions held)

Volunteer and Community Service (including leadership positions held)

Awards and Honors (including Letters) 

Work Experience 

SECTION V. – Transcript (Request a transcript on Naviance no later than February 25).

 

Submit the cover sheet, 2 essays, and resume to your OPS high school counselor by February 25. Request a transcript on Naviance no later than February 25. Applications will be sent to Buffett counseling rep and on to PTO committee in early March.  Buffett counseling rep will notify all high schools regarding scholarship winner names by early April.  The Buffett PTO members will mail out notification letters to ALL applicants by May.
